The journey.

Over three days, you’ll earn your turns on hand-built singletrack, through abandoned mines and lush green forests, before railing the berms of the Austrian flow country.

A multi-day mountain bike ride where we will explore the natural landscapes further, connect with fellow riders, and the locals that created a story of synergy between conservation and recreation here.

Global purpose, local action.

Nestled in the rural heartland of Koroška-Kärnten is a special village - Jamnica - where a group of local mountain bikers and guides have developed a trail network that has connected valleys, communities, and countries; ways of life. Jamnica is not just a tool for socio-economic benefit in a lesser-discovered piece of the European Alps, but a super story for the synergy between conservation and recreation; a place that you need to visit, and enjoy.

All about the ride, and the apres-ride.

Journeying is the game, so the days' trail vibes continue into the night. The two ROAMER Camps are rendezvous for intrepid riders, local communities and projects, brands and partners to get together. Connect with people and place; hear purposeful stories from pro-riders and ambassadors; learn about advocacy organisations and their missions; eat great local food; sup and/or dance to local folk music; and even get your kit repaired by the folks at Patagonia Worn Wear. Wake up the following day, pack-up and repeat. Roam on...

INFO & FAQ

If you can’t find the answer to your questions, feel free to contact us info@roamer-rendezvous.cc

When does ROAMER TRAIL start, and where?
ROAMER Registration will be from 09.00 on Friday 29 Sept 2023, at Pirkdorfer See (Petzen). We'll aim to roll out towards Jamnica as a group by 10.30.
What is the best way of getting to/from ROAMER TRAIL (Petzen)?
By car / from Graz or Klagenfurt, it's a 30-minute drive from the A2 exit. By plane / the nearest airports are Klagenfurt and Graz. By train / the nearest stations are Bleiburg, Bleiburg Stadt or Kühnsdorf.
When does ROAMER TRAIL finish, and where?
ROAMER finishes at Petzen bike park, around lunchtime on Sunday 01 Oct 2023. Petzen bike park is a 20-minute ride from the start at Pirkdorfer See. You are free to spend the day at the park, riding the network of big flow trails, or to travel home as you wish/need.
Can we arrive the night before and camp/stay at or near the start?
Yes, Pirkdorfer See (https://www.pirkdorfersee.at/en/) has reserved a lakeside tent pitch area of the camp for ROAMERS. Other accomodation options are available, too. We recommend booking a tent spot or accommodation ahead of your arrival, just to be sure.
Is this a bikepacking trip or can ROAMER transfer my bags each day?
Yes, and no! We've designed a trail journey that enables you to enjoy the best handling and ride quality on the trails - ROAMER embraces the nomadic aspects of bikepacking, but with the benefits of some support and hosting. You can choose whether you load your bike with all your kit for three days, or not. Either way, you'll need to carry some essential basics for the days' riding, so choose to ride with a small backpack or a minimal bikepacking setup, but everything else that you need at the camp can be transfered by us each day, as long as it fits in a cabin-sized bag.
I will travel with a bike box, is there a place to store it while we roam?
Yes, secure storage for your bike box is available upon request. Please let us know after booking.
What bike is best for ROAMER TRAIL?
A full-suspension trail bike will be the rig you will have the most fun on at ROAMER Trail. However, a hardtail mountain bike will get around the route if you need. We'd recommend some front suspension and a dropper seatpost.
Can I hire a bike for ROAMER TRAIL?
Bike rentals are available from Petzen Bike Park, at special ROAMER rate. If you need a bike make sure you reserve it ahead of time by contacting petzen@mtbzone-bikepark.com and mentioning the event.
Are e-bikes OK? Will there be facilities to charge, if needed?
With some climbing across the three-day itinerary, e-bikes will be great option to get through the day and save some vigour for the apres. There will be the possibility to charge bikes at both camps.
What is the bike parking situation each evening at the camps?
Sleep tight in your tent without worrying - there will be a bike park area under full surveillance through the night, at both camps.
What will the weather be like?
Late September will bring mixed conditions in Koroška-Kärnten, so please come prepared for all weathers. We'll be spending most of our time around 500M+ so not too high and exposed - expect the temperature to be between 8-20°C.
What is the camp sleeping arrangement? Do I need to bring any camping kit?
We've got you covered! ROAMER offers accommodation in two-persons tents, with cots/sleeping pads provided by Taborniki (the national scouting organization of Slovenia) that you can add to your entry package. Each tent booking will be for a whole tent, which can accommodate two people. Although, you are more than welcome to bring and stay in your own tent - you decide. In all cases, YOU NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAG.
Do I need insurance?
It is not mandatory but highly recommended.
How good of an off-road rider do I need to be for ROAMER TRAIL? Is it open to anyone?
The itinerary is suited to any competent mountain biker. You have to be confident in off-road riding, brake control in steeper terrain and on varying trail surfaces. In technical difficulty (International Trail Rating System) most trails will range from from intermediate to advanced. Of course, there will be some expert sections to spice things up for more experienced riders but, in these cases, variations will be possible and clearly marked for those not wanting anything too much.
How quick do I need to ride? Or, rather, how slow can we ride?
ROAMER is slow travel at its finest! Ride as you wish - steady all the way, technical sections hard and fast, stop for photos or a brew. However you ride, we'll all be starting and finishing up at the same place(s) each day, so you do you.
Are we really going to ride underground?
Yes, we will explore the old lead and zinc mines of Podzemlje Pece for about 5 kilometres. Proper head-lights will be provided at the entry point to the mine, but you can bring your own. There's a constant temperature of around 10°c inside the tunnels, so make sure to layer up!
Is ROAMER TRAIL guided? Do we need to navigate and fix things ourselves?
ROAMER Trail is not 'guided' - a .gpx track will be provided ahead of the event, and you'll find ROAMER Riders as part of the herd, if you'd like to ride with others or need a hand. We'll also have a ROAMER vehicle rounding things up like a sheepdog at the back, incase of any issues.
Can ROAMER cater for all diets and dietary requirements?
Yes. A couple of weeks before the event, we will send an information form out to all ROAMERS to ask a few important questions - including dietary requirements. Please do bring and share your favourite snacks, either way :)
Are there fancy facilities like showers and electricity?
Toilets, showers and charging stations for small electronic devices will be available at both camps.
